In 1961, CBC founder A.J. Fletcher used his dividends from the sale of his stock in Southern Life Insurance Company to create a foundation to support the arts & other non-profits. The philanthropy & commitment to the community didn’t end there.
A.J. Fletcher Foundation
The A.J. Fletcher Foundation began as A.J. Fletcher’s means of supporting his love of opera but has expanded over the years to become a funding source for the arts, community services and much more.
Fletcher Opera Institute
In September 2001, the National Opera Company merged with the North Carolina School of the Arts graduate opera program to form the Fletcher Opera Institute. A.J. Fletcher began the National Opera Company as the Grassroots Opera in 1948, and his love of opera lives on through this new education program.
The Healing Place of Wake County
CBC was instrumental in creating The Healing Place of Wake County, a non-profit rescue and rehabilitation facility that offers a free, long-term, residential recovery program for homeless adult men with alcohol and drug addictions. After years of research and hard work, The Healing Place opened in January 2001.
