“…we were confident in our plan and that the people in our community would help the cause, no matter how it looked on TV. Little did we know just how much they would step up.”
– WRAL-TV Local Production Manager Don Ursich
The totals are still being tallied, but the results are clear. WRAL-TV’s 32nd Annual Coats for the Children Campaign had an overwhelming response in both coat donations as well as monetary donations. The 2020 Campaign ran from late November through December 31.
“COVID-19 has changed so much in 2020 and Coats For the Children was no exception,” said WRAL-TV Local Production Manager Don Ursich. “The day of telethon execution changed multiple times, but we were confident in our plan and that the people in our community would help the cause, no matter how it looked on TV. Little did we know just how much they would step up.”
The traditional telethon was replaced by a “Day of Giving” on Friday, December 11. Full and half-hour specials on WRAL still anchored the day, and viewers responded generously.
“We exceeded not only the $200,000 mark during the telethon, but raised more than $280,000 to help keep families warm this winter,” said Ursich. “It couldn’t have come at better time when so many people in our community are struggling to make ends meet due to the pandemic. Despite all the turmoil going on right now, it’s a great feeling to know that what we do is making a difference in people’s lives.”
Thanks to all WRAL viewers who gave during the 2020 Coats for the Children Campaign.
