Capitol Broadcasting divisions will be Here to Help the Helpers with a daylong virtual telethon to benefit the United Way of the Greater Triangle on Thursday, April 2, 2020. The fundraising effort for the United Way’s Rapid Response Fund kicks off at 4:30am on the WRAL News. More than 50 United Way volunteers will then be available starting at noon to help callers make donations via phone. 100% of the funds raised will be dispersed throughout the community.
“It was very clear a week and a half ago what kind of impact the pandemic would have here in the Triangle,” said WRAL-TV Vice President & General Manager Joel Davis. “Our team immediately began to focus on how we could help.”
WRAL-TV is working together with CBC sister divisions FOX 50, WRAL.com, MIX 101.5, WRAL-FM, 95.7 That Station. 99.9 The Fan and the Durham Bulls for this fundraiser to support local nonprofits providing critical resources including food, hygiene supplies, childcare, and housing support for residents.
The United Way’s Rapid Response Fund provides immediate funding to MANY nonprofits who are working the frontlines of our community and experiencing an increased demand for critical resources like food, childcare and housing due to COVID-19.
“Capitol has a strong reputation of being part of this community and helping others when needed,” Davis continued. “It was important for us to be the first in the region to promote efforts to help others, but this is just the beginning. We raised $350,000 to help restaurant workers. I suspect we’ll raise much more to help the United Way’s Rapid Relief Fund. Who knows where the help will be needed next… but we’ll be there to help, too.”
