WRAL-TV has been honored with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Innovation for the second year running. The station took home the 2019 honor for the news series “Presumption of Fear.” The Radio Television Digital News Association made the announcement on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
First presented in 1971, the Murrow Awards honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. The recipients “demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set.”
“We are really proud that WRAL has won the regional Murrow award for innovation in back-to-back years,” said John Conway, general manager for New Media. “Presumption of Fear was a complex and compelling story reported over many months by Tyler and Mandy that deserved special treatment on digital platforms and TV. It had plenty of room to breathe on both, and the platforms complemented one another nicely.”
WRAL-TV won the 2018 award for “HighSchoolOT Live,” a multi-platform, interactive means to deliver and consume North Carolina high school football coverage.
