WRAL-TV is known for news excellence and now the station is getting attention for its excellence in using social media. NetNewsCheck posted the article “WRAL Leads Raleigh Social Media Scene” on Monday, December 5, 2016.
NetNewsCheck’s Paul Greeley leads off the piece, writing, “WRAL’s enterprising approach to Facebook powers its robust lead among local media outlets on social media in Raleigh-Durham, N.C. according to Shareablee data. The station is particularly bullish on Facebook Live, where it even sees revenue opportunities beginning to open up.”
The article cites that WRAL-TV has “about 25% more social actions than its nearest media competitor over the past six months according to data from audience insight firm Shareablee.” Greeley interviewed both WRAL-TV Creative Director Shelly Leslie and WRAL-TV Social Media Manager Wendy Gatlin for the article.
“Our social media results have quadrupled under Wendy’s leadership over the last two years,” said Leslie. “Bringing her onto the team exploded our social media brand. Our success is also the result of extraordinary teamwork with Jodi Glusco, Derek Medlin and the entire team of web editors. It should also be noted that we couldn’t succeed in the social space without our on-air talent and photographers constantly sending in or posting content from the field.”
As WRAL looks to the future, social media is definitely part of the plan.
“In 2017, we’ll be developing more ways to use the power of social media to push users in new ways to TV and our digital products, from WRAL.com to the OTT apps,” said Leslie. “We also have plans to develop a revenue stream by capitalizing on our huge audience. We’re looking very forward to collaborating with the WRAL.com marketing and sales teams on that. So stay tuned!”
