Capitol Broadcasting Company’s MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM awarded a total of $16,000 to six local school choirs who competed for listeners’ votes in the MIX 101.5 Christmas Choir Competition.
Raleigh’s Martin GT Magnet Middle School claimed 1st place in Division I and the $5,000 cash prize. Cedar Fork Elementary in Morrisville won 2nd place and $2,000, while Cary Academy received 3rd place and $1,000.
The Division II 1st place title and $5,000 went to Sanderson High School in Raleigh, followed by Wake Christian Academy in 2nd place with $2,000. 3rd place and $1,000 went to Athens Drive High School in Raleigh.
“This competition has been the highlight of our year here at MIX. Being able to showcase these amazing school choirs and introduce them to our listeners has been very rewarding for everyone involved,” says Ardie Gregory, MIX 101.5 GM. “The response from the schools far exceeded our expectations and the support of the community has touched our hearts.”
MIX 101.5 will be playing Christmas music and featuring the six winning entries in regular rotation through Christmas Day. Listeners can also go to wralfm.com for a list of all 18 semi-finalists or to hear their entries.
Christmas Choir Competition entries were accepted October 28 – November 22, 2013 from schools in a nine-county contest area. The contest featured two divisions: Kindergarten through 8th grade and 9th through 12th grade. Nine semi-finalists were chosen from each division and were showcased on The MIX Morning Show with Mike Chase and Lynda Loveland. Listeners, parents, school staff members and students were asked to visit wralfm.com to vote for the school choir they liked best.
