WRAL will employ a journalist to cover issues in eastern North Carolina
WRAL, a division of Capitol Broadcasting Company in Raleigh, N.C., is proud to announce Report for America has selected the station to be a 2020-2021 host newsroom.
Report for America is a national service program that places talented, emerging journalists into local news organizations to report for one to two years on under-reported issues and communities.
With Report for America’s assistance, WRAL will employ a full-time journalist in eastern North Carolina. This reporter will cover issues that are often overlooked in day-to-day media coverage, from decreasing access to healthcare across the region to conflicts between conservationists and the commercial fishing industry along the state’s vast coastline. The reporter, who will produce content for WRAL’s newscasts and digital platforms, will also focus on education disparities, environmental concerns and economic struggles.
“We are so excited to partner with Report for America to bring coverage to important issues in eastern North Carolina that often don’t get a lot of coverage,” said Ashley Talley, Enterprise Executive Producer at WRAL. “From fisheries to farming, from Pender to Pasquotank, WRAL is thrilled to employ a reporter to live and work in this important part of our state.”
