The American Tobacco Campus is accepting applications for a new pop-up space meant to highlight multiple innovative small businesses in a thriving urban setting.
Officials are looking for qualified businesses and start-ups to utilize a prime retail spot on a revolving schedule starting in August.
Called PopUp @ American Tobacco Campus, the initiative is meant to expose American Tobacco patrons to different shops and businesses in one setting. For example, a coffee brand, a yoga studio and an apparel line might use the same space over a two or three month span.
The pop-up shop surrounds American Tobacco Campus restaurants, the Durham Performing Arts Center, Aloft Durham Downtown and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Outdoor events are held weekly on the lawn space, which features beautifully lit paths, hammocks and even mini waterfalls.
“Durham has earned a reputation as ‘The Startup Hub of the South,’ and PopUp @ American Tobacco Campus offers another way to rally around our community’s entrepreneurs and innovators,” says Adam Klein, director of strategy at Capitol Broadcasting Company, which owns the campus. “Plus, the parade of new ideas will be a lot of fun. It’s not just a series of popups, it’s an ongoing adventure.”
PopUp @ American Tobacco Campus is located in a street-level 1,483 sq. ft. space at 359 Blackwell St. Interested businesses and start-ups can apply online.
The American Tobacco Campus is owned by Capitol Broadcasting Company.
