NCNN Named Outstanding News Operation by NC Associated Press

The North Carolina Associated Press Broadcasters (NCAPB) handed out their 2008 awards, and the North Carolina News Network came home with an armload.   NCNN won Outstanding News Operation and seven additional top honors as well as two honorable mentions.

The ceremony took place on Saturday, April 19th at their annual convention at Elon University.  NCNN News Director Ellen Reinhardt attended and accepted the awards on behalf of the network.

NCNN brought home the first place following awards:

  • NCNN was named Outstanding News Operation by the North Carolina Associated Press Broadcasters.

    Enterprise/Investigative: Clayton Henkel’s Beyond the Headlines series called Quest For Care.

  • Best Newscast: David Horn’s newscast on October 17th,2007

  • Best Sportscast: Bruce Ferrell’s sportscast on December 15th, 2007

  • Best Sports Programming: David Horn for Racing Today

  • Best Consumer Report: Clayton Henkel’s Beyond the Headlines series called Talking Trash

  • Best Series: Clayton Henkel’s Beyond the Headlines series called Talking Trash.

NCNN also received two Honorable Mentions:

  • Enterprise/Documentary: Honorable mention for Clayton Henkel’s Beyond the Headlines series called The Quest For Care.
  • Best Health Report: Honorable mention for Clayton Henkel’s Beyond the Headlines series called The Shape of Our Kids.
When it comes to being outstanding overall, CBC swept the NCAPB awards. WRAL-TV was named Outstanding News Operation in the television category. Read about the NCAPB awards won by the Big 5 here.
